Toronto Auto Show: Volkswagen

The all-new 2006 Passat arrived in the fall of 2005 without its wagon variant. In Toronto, Volkswagen, having made us wait, has unveiled the best looking wagon in its price range. All amenities and packages available with the sedan will be offered on the 2007 Estate. This will include the turbocharged 200 hp 2.0L 4-cylinder and the 280 hp 3.6L V6 as well as Volkswagen's 4MOTION AWD system.

The 2007 MKV Golf made its North American debut at the Chicago Auto Show. As of this summer, both 3 and 5-door body styles will be offered. Standard safety features will include ABS brakes, traction control, active front headrests and 6 air bags. Sporting an all-new independent suspension, the new Golf's drive should be true to the original. Under the bonnet will be the same 150 hp 2.5L inline 5-cylinder engine found in the new Jetta. Transmissions will be a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The 3-door will start at $19,990 while the 5-door will be $20,090.

The Touareg's pricing has been reduced to be more competitve (V6: $4,220; V8: $3,400) and for 2007, Volkswagen's luxury SUV will inherit the 280 hp 3.6L V6 shared with the Passat. The EOS will find its way into dealerships in August or September of this year.
