Slightly delayed by a rain shower in the morning, the second day of NASCAR Sprint testing went under way pretty well. As expected, 2007 champ Jimmie Johnson was the fastest, reaching speeds of 184.764 mph with his No 48A Chevy Impala.
The surprise was to see Montreal's Jacques Villeneuve closing in with a speed of 184.456 mph with his No 27B Toyota Camry, the second best time of the morning.
Afternoon practice was different, however. Instead of individual practice, drivers hit the track in groups to test drafting for the first time at Daytona with the new cars.
Surprisingly, J.J. Yeley was the fastest with is No 96A Toyota Camry (187.359 mph). Kurt Busch (Dodge 2B) and his brother Kyle (Toyota 18B) were second and third.
