Toyota chose the Chicago Auto Show to introduce their next-generation Highlander SUVs, including the Highlander Hybrid. Larger, heavier, more spacious and more powerful than the current model, the new Highlander is nearly as fuel-efficient, while also being quieter and more intelligent.

Toyota largely improved their Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain for the 2008 Highlander. Despite a 226.8-kilo gain and the fact that engineers managed to increase the combined horsepower rating to 270, the Highlander Hybrid still delivers an impressive environmental performance. The fuel consumption figures are reportedly 7.6 L/100 km in the city and 8.7 L/100 km on the highway.

The 2008 Highlander will hit Quebec showrooms in September 2007. Two different trims will be available: Base and Limited. All models will be equipped with Toyota's Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system that governs a wide range of technologies: intelligent AWD, stability control, electronic brake control, electric power steering, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and ABS.
