Fox News has conducted a small study of companies who have suffered from the largest number of lawsuits in the United States in 2010. For the first time, Toyota has surpassed General Motors at this chapter.
General Motors, which is considered to be the most pursued automaker in the U.S., has seen the number of legal actions taken against them reduced to 299. This is a considerable improvement if we know that the number of charges filed against them was of 1817 in 2009, 2524 in 2008 and 2331 in 2007.
In contrast, Toyota's U.S. lawyers have been really busy in 2010 with 1 873 cases that were filed against them. For 2007, 2008 and 2009, the average of legal actions aimed at the Japanese manufacturer was of 166. We can therefore assume that the recalls episode of 2010 has artificially inflated the statistics.
