Hot on the heels of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volkswagen group will soon unveil a new minivan that will go on sale in North America.
In an attempt to boost their sales volume, Germany's largest automaker has teamed up with Chrysler LLC to develop a minivan called the Routan which will be built at the Chrysler minivan assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario.
The interesting name combines the American word "route" with the "an" suffix- which shouts back to their German roots and already finishes the names of several other VW models like the Touran and Sharan.
Volkswagen stresses that despite being built in Chrysler's plant, the Routan will feature design and functional elements characteristic of their other vehicles. The new model is extensively tailored to our particular marketplace, just like the Passat CC which shares the same goal of boosting VW sales in the USA to 800,000 vehicles by 2018.
Routan is over 5 meters long, and offers plenty of space for up to 7 passengers and their belongings. It will be on display at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show, which opens February 6th.
