Volkswagen announced this morning that the Routan minivan will be available in Canada starting at $27,975.
Like the Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town and Country, the Routan was designed around Chrysler's RT platform. It nevertheless distinguishes itself from its American cousins, thanks namely to a unique dashboard and front and rear fascia.
The Routan is powered by a 4.0-litre, V6 engine producing 253 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque, the same one found under the hood of the Chrysler Town and Country. Volkswagen says the Routan will have a fuel consumption of 8.5 litres per 100 km on the highway and 13.2 litres per 100 km in the city.
The 2009 Routan, only available in a 7-passenger configuration, will feature an automatic, 3-zone air conditioning system, inflatable front and side curtains and a stability control system.
It will be available in Canada in September.
