Volkswagen: Calling all art thieves (VIDEO)

To promote the new 2012 Jetta GLI, Volkswagen is encouraging people to become… art thieves.

It’s all entirely legal, of course, and the stroke of genius came from the automaker’s marketing department, who put up impromptu galleries in the streets Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto.

And not just in the streets, either. These “urban art galleries” can be found in deserted back alleys, in the middle of a downtown construction site, in a park, in a shopping plaza, etc.

In fact, you’re likely to spot one of these beautiful framed Jetta GLI photos just about anywhere.

Volkswagen encourages anyone who discovers one of the urban galleries to steal a piece and then share their naughtiness on Facebook or Twitter by inserting the tag #VWArtHeist.

VW will give hints as to the location of the galleries via its Twitter account (@VWcanada) in the days and weeks to come. So be on the lookout!
