The C30 Design Concept is a teaser that shows what the actual production C30 will look like when it will be introduced at the Paris next September. It is built on the same platform as the S40/V50 as well as the new European Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volvo's own C70.  Length-wise, it will be almost 9 inches shorter than the S40, but is wider, and borrows many styling cues from the SCC (Safety Concept Car) and the 3CC (3-seat Concept Car).

The C30 Design Concept is equipped with an inline-5 engine that produces 260 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. 0 to 60 miles an hour is achieved in 6 seconds and it reaches a limited top speed of 156 mph.

The car will be a 3-door hatchback and will become Volvo's entry-level car. As is always the case with Volvo products, the level of safety items will be extensive: at least 6 airbags and a full array of electronic driving aids. The C30 is aimed squarely at the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Mercedes B-Class.

Shortly after the Paris Auto Show, the C30 will go into production at Ford's plant in Belgium. The car should arrive in showrooms by the fall of this year.

Volvo is studying the possibility of introducing a hybrid version in the near future.
