VW shows off next Jetta for Canada

Some of thesafety features for the new Jetta include front side thorax airbags, sidecurtain protection (for the head) in front and rear seats, crash-active frontheadrests, crash-optimized foot pedals that descend upon serious impact, adjustableheadrests for all five occupants, front belt pre-tensioners with load limiters,and safety belts with emergency locking retractors.

The new Jettahas a stronger body than its predecessor, Holman says, recording double-digitimprovements in its dynamic and torsional rigidity. ''This is achievedthrough the use of more high-strength body panels, world-class design andengineering, and an advanced, highly automated, laser-welding system.'' 

Some of the resultsof this will be ''class-leading fit and finish, improved body strength, crashprotection, driving dynamics and reduced interior noise,'' says Holman.

''This all-newJetta once again documents Volkswagen's attention to detail, unique drivingdynamics, high-energy looks and quality materials to match and exceed theexpectations of the North American customer,'' Holman says.

Holman says the plant in Puebla, Mexico,will ''set quality standards for this model segment. Volkswagen AGinvested extensively to further advance the modern assembly sequences andtechnologies at its sole North American site -- a facility that, according tointernal quality audits, ranks as one of the Volkswagen Group's top factoriesin the world.''
