Frank Klegon, Executive Vice-President for product development for Chrysler, made a number of announcements on that sunny day in Chelsea, some of which were expected. He began by mentioning that Chrysler is going to stand by its promise of delivering more hybrids and more diesels in the very near future. Mr. Klegon himself is a fan of diesel technology. His company's ongoing research in diesel and biodiesel will bear fruit shortly. He touched on Bluetec and the fact that the Grand Cherokee was next on the receiving line, as expected, but what was a little of a surprise, was that a 4-cylinder diesel could be on Chrysler's menu before too long.
He also brought up some facts about how popular Chrysler's world engine, the 2.4L 4-cylinder, is turning out to be. One example he gave us was that nearly 70% of Sebrings sold in the US run on that engine. He was also pleased to report that sales were on the rise.
As of right now, I am only able to give you my driving impressions on a few of the vehicles that I drove. Stay tuned for some info on Chrysler's new Big Hybrid and, unfortunately, a few months later, my thoughts on the new Dodge Magnum, Dakota and Ram 3500.
