Insiders suggest that this mighty four-cylinder engine could produce as much as 170 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This combo, linked to the twin-clutch DSG gearbox or six-speed manual, should help propel the three-door hatchback to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and allow it to reach speeds in excess of 230 km/h.
Compared to the likes of the normal GTI, with its 200-horsepower, 207 lb-ft of torque turbocharged direct-injection inline-four, the GTD is a formidable performer. With better

The Golf GTD and its high-performance turbodiesel motor are expected to make their debut this September at the IAA (Frankfurt Motor Show) in Germany. Insiders also suggest that the motor will be fitted to the Jetta, which will arrive in Europe this summer. Unlike in North America, the Jetta is far less popular there than the Golf, and as a result, production of all Jettas will take place in VW's Puebla, Mexico assembly plant.
