The Touareg gets a little brother as the production version of the Tiguan is shown to the world for the first time.
With its three different trim levels, the Tiguan potentially has a lot to offer. The Trend&Fun and Sport&Style versions are designed for on-road use, while the Track&Field trim is the off-road version of the SUV.
A choice of five engines is offered for the Tiguan, and all are either turbocharged or turbocharged and supercharged. Gas-powered engines will deliver 150, 170 and 200 horsepower while diesels will crank out 140 and 170 horsepower. Canadian-market versions will probably get two of those engines, a gasoline and a TDI.
4MOTION all-wheel drive will also equip the Tiguan, and transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic.
Maximum towing capacity is said to be a class-leading 2,500 kilograms, or 5,500 lbs, with the help of a swivelling trailer hitch.
The Tiguan will also include features such as Park Assist, a navigation system, a 30-Gb hard disk for the sound system, a rearview camera and a power panoramic sunroof.
