Citroën may run a third factory DS3 WRC for Nasser Al-Attiyah with backing from Barwa.

Al-Attiyah, the 2006 Production Car World Champion, is driving a Super 2000 WRC series in a Ford Fiesta.

He has been linked for years with Volkswagen, as he ran the Dakar several times with a factory Touareg, including a victory in the 2011 race. But the driver from Qatar left VW as the German firm announced its withdrawal from the Dakar rally, in order to focus on its WRC debut in 2012.

Al-Attiyah will compete in the 2012 Dakar Rally in a Mini 4X4, with the backing of Barwa, and could have the opportunity to drive a third factory DS3 WRC next season with the support of his sponsor. Barwa intends to develop a support program for young drivers from Qatar, that would run in a WRC support category.

Al-Attiyah is also in line to represent Qatar in… the skeet shooting competition in the 2012 Olympic Games.
