Autosport.com has revealed that Ford new-comer Petter Solberg had been clocked going 106 km/h on a 50 km/h road section of the Monte Carlo rally, Saturday night.

Solberg later admitted his guilt, on a continuous centre line at that. The speeding was, he said, to pass a slower car.

The Norwegian was handed a suspended ban – which means if he is caught speeding by more more than 50% again in any of the next six WRC rallies this season, he will be disqualified of the event.

The Ford driver will also have to pay 1,400 euro in fines, for breaching article 151c of the International Sporting code (i.e. committing an act prejudicial to the interest of the sport).
