ZAP has made a name for itself in the transportation industry thanks to its various green technologies, including hydrogen, electricity, fuel cells, ethanol, hybrid systems and other efficient innovations. The company has already delivered some 90,000 energy-efficient vehicles to consumers in more than 75 countries around the world.
After the XEBRA, which we talked about last month (see article), ZAP recently introduced a compact crossover called the "ZAP-X". This vehicle uses four in-wheel motors to produce a total of 644 horsepower, sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 kph. Its lightweight aluminum chassis as well as its efficient transmission and battery management systems allow the ZAP-X to offer a 550-km range. The batteries can be recharged about 9,000 times and the process only takes 10 minutes or so after each plug-in.
Slightly similar in style to Mazda's CX-7, the ZAP-X incorporates some of the most advanced technologies (electronic braking, photovoltaic windshield to capture solar energy, navigation system, etc.) and could very well revolutionize the electric car industry. It delivers the performance of a sports car and the versatility of an SUV.
