Allmendinger is on the same, advanced learning curve to Champ Cars
source: cart.com Two years removed from shifter karts and one year after running off with the Barber Dodge Pro Series title in his initial season of competing in cars, the 21-year-old Californian is storming through the Toyota Atlantic series. After seven races, Allmendinger owns four wins and a 27-point lead over Ryan Dalziel going into the next stop at Trois Rivieres on Aug. 3. He's got the mindset, passion and talent to continue his accelerated climb and he also understands the what-have-you-done-lately mentality of motorsports. "My goal is Champ Car and if you're an American driver you can't linger, you have to do something special," said the protege of CART star Paul Tracy, who strapped Allmendinger into one of his karts three years ago. "You have to amaze people or they'll say you're just another driver so I've got to keep winning and keep advancing my career." Anthony James (his initials were mandated by his father, a huge A.J. Foyt fan and former dirt racer), teammate Aaron Justus and the RuSPORT team are all rookies in Atlantics but obviously in name only.
