Canadian driver Patrick Carpentier scored his ninth Top-10 finish of the 2005 season in Round 13 of the Indy Racing League Indy Car Series race held Sunday at Pikes Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, Colorado source: Max D'Orsonnens Starting 17th, the Red Bull Cheever Racing driver was never in contention for the win but managed to pass seven cars along the way to finish 10th, three laps down on race winner Dan Wheldon. As for Alex Barron, Carpentier's teammate, he finished 18th, six laps down. Only the top three finishers completed all 225 laps of the race. ''It's not a bad results because I managed to lap more than once every other drivers using the same engine I am, except for the Penskes,'' Carpentier said. ''The race was run at a very fast pace. At the start, the car was quite unstable but the team managed to bring it around at each stop. At the end, the car was quite good, but it was a little too late. It's another top-10 finish.'' Starting 11th, Dan Wheldon took the lead for the first time on lap 153 of 225 when he passed his Andretti-Green teammate Dario Franchitti. The Scot fought back and passed Wheldon back before heading to the pits for his final stop on lap 165. Unfortunately, Franchitti stalled the car and Wheldon moved back into the lead to sail away with the win. The British driver crossed the finish line 12.4763 seconds ahead of Team Penske driver Sam Hornish of the United States, and 13.7639 seconds ahead of his other teammate, Brazilian Tony Kanaan. For Wheldon, win number five ties the record for most victories in a single-season set by Hornish in 2002. It was Wheldon's eighth career win, his first since his Indy 500 triumph last May, and win number eight for Team Andretti-Green this season.
