Who will stay and who is leaving?
A 64,000$ question... source: CARTpentier.com The first impression in the room this morning when "the boys" showed up for the press conference in Montreal was that they were both mourning their jobs with Team Player's. Neither Alexandre or Patrick were wearing team jerseys or caps. No Player's logos anywhere on them or around them. Curious for two guys that are still on the Player's payroll. Could that be a sign, a final signal, a subliminal message ? Even worst, no team management representatives around. As if they were in hiding from the Montreal area press representatives. Except for two small posters on the stage behind both drivers, not a sign of the big Player's Marketing machine in the house. On the other hand, the relaxed ambiance in the room made the event very interesting for all on hand. Of course, many questions from the floor about the future of both Quebecois and very evasive answers from both as they seemed unable or unwilling to speak the truth, only the truth and nothing but the truth... We learned from Patrick that he will have a VERY GOOD ride in 2003. No confirmation as to where, with whom and in what series, but obviously Patrick does not look like he is very worried about his future as a racer in the major leagues... Patrick repeated at least a few times that he and his manager Alan Labrosse are talking to 5 different teams at this time and that HONDA is showing great interest in his services. Let's note here that Honda will race in IRL, CART's competitive series in 2003. I also took the opportunity to ask a question that has been on my mind since the announcement of a CART race on Gilles-Villeneuve track. I really want to know how many seconds slower than the best F1 formulas, the CART machines will be? Answers from Patrick : 5.3 seconds, Alexandre thinks 10 seconds...Who will be right? We will see Sunday, but we will already have a good idea when they practice on Friday. Of course, Team Flagworld will be at the "circuit" all weekend to follow the performance of the 3 Canadians...
