Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone could be set to buy a share in the US-based
CART Championship, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine.
The billionaire powerbroker is known to have had secret meetings with CART boss
Chris Pook over the past three weeks, one of them in the UK during the US Grand
Prix weekend. It is understood they discussed a possible commercial tie-up
between CART and the F1 boss.
When asked about the rumours, Ecclestone said: "I've had some chats with
Chris on what could be and couldn't be, but we've got no further than
that."
Ecclestone has the financial clout to make the purchase, and he and Pook are old
allies. Pook promoted Formula 1's US Grand Prix West in Long Beach from 1976 to
'83.
