Paul Tracy received the handshakes and accolades after winning the pole Saturday for the Toronto Molson Indy, but his compatriots won't be hard to find in his rear-view mirror source: tsn.ca The three Canadians in the 19-car field all cracked the top-five on the starting grid, as Rocketsports Racing's Alex Tagliani of Lachenaie, Que., will occupy the outside of row two and Tracy's Player's Forsythe teammate, Patrick Carpentier of Joliette, Que., will start fifth on Sunday. All three are ideally placed to be competitive on the 11-turn, 1.755-mile temporary street course, but Carpentier wasn't overjoyed with his final qualifying session. ``I thought I would be little bit higher up than that (fifth),'' said Carpentier. ``But I couldn't put it together, so it's a bit disappointing.'' Carpentier's problem won't produce much sympathy among Toronto commuters who battle their way to work through smog-inducing traffic jams every weekday. ``Too much traffic,'' he sighed. ``(Michel) Bordais was in the same area I was, and the back-markers just kept slowing us down.'' Tagliani not only had to drive, but had to be the eyes and ears for his Rocketsports' engineers, who had never seen the Exhibition Place street course before as a new team on the CART circuit this season.''I take my hat off to them,'' said Tagliani.
