Red Bull Cheever Racing driver Patrick Carpentier has found his stride in the IndyCar Series source: indycar.com The open-wheel veteran has recorded seven top-10 finishes in the past eight events heading into the season-ending Toyota Indy 400 on Oct. 16 at California Speedway. The results of late are a pleasant surprise for the series newcomer, who broke out with a third-place finish at Richmond International Raceway in late June. "I'm really happy with what we've been able to accomplish this year," said Carpentier, who finished third in his last visit to the 2-mile facility in 2002. "I definitely wasn't expecting a strong finish at the beginning of the year when things weren't going so well for us." The driver of the No. 83 Red Bull Cheever Racing Dallara/Toyota/Firestone had three top-10 finishes in the initial six races. Third at Richmond and Nashville Superspeedway are his high-water marks. Carpentier is tied for ninth in points with Tomas Scheckter, but could finish as high as seventh in final standings with a good run at California Speedway. "We've improved pretty much every race, and I really can't expect more than that," he said. "The wins will come in time. The most important thing to me is that I'm having fun. It has been one of the most enjoyable seasons of my career."
