CCWS: A Race in New York City ??? source: paddocktalk.com - rumors OK... It has been the desire for major racing series to race closer to the mecca of media.. New York City. The big idea here is... get the locals fired up, and see if the major networks take a closer interest, and bring national attention to the event. In fact, over the last few years, Champ Cars, Indy Cars, NASCAR stock cars have all made demonstration appearances on the streets of New York City trying to capture just a bit of recognition in a city that loves their stick and ball sports like no other. According to the New York Daily News, Paul Newman is leading the charge to develop a old run-down airport complex into a world class autoracing facility. He even has good intentions... charities like 'Hole in the Wall', and such. The PaddockTalk Perspective: But... Leave it to New York politicians and other government 'red tape' to stifle economic innovation. It seems they like the airport just like it is, and have a list of excuses as to why this one won't work. We'd list them, but it doesn't really matter at this point. So we won't. If NASCAR and its momentum can't get the backing to override the local Democrat political machine, we're hard pressed to believe a good hearted man like Paul Newman will be able to make much headway either. But maybe... He already knew that. You see... just by making the proposal raises the profile of the Champ Car World Series in the region. Just like it did in Philadelphia. And all it cost him was a little time, and cab fare.
