Philadelphia, New York, Las Vegas, and as previously mentioned Phoenix. source: paddocktalk.com - rumors All major cities that have been targeted for a Champ Car race by either the series, or promoters moving the issue forward, and on to the city council dockets. Phoenix is the latest proposal and will undergo consideration tonight. At least at the sub-committee level. Maybe even an answer will come forth. The multiple Phoenix media outlets are reporting the standard arguements that always come up when discussing a potential street race. Money & Noise & Traffic vs. Economic Benefit & Promotion of the City. The only catch this time (much like what happened in Miami some years back) is that the local race track (Phoenix International Raceway) is fighting the proposal. Why are they fighting it ? They told The Arizona Republic that the city should get out of a "hokey street race", and develop a strong relationship with NASCAR. The PaddockTalk Perspective: As for us... We find it a bit humorous that a PIR would consider an open-wheel street race a threat to their NASCAR race, and even waste the time by responding at all. Especially since the venue has been unable to appeal open-wheel fans, and was finally removed from the IRL IndyCar schedule after attendance continued to dwindle. Maybe PIR should look at the history of such situations. The Miami Grand Prix hasn't hurt NASCAR's race at Homestead.... even after it was run twice and dropped. The Detroit Grand Prix didn't bother Michigan's NASCAR race. The two styles of racing appeal to difference audiences. NASCAR's success has little to do with whether the open-wheel series are racing in town.
