Jan Heylen arrived in Mexico City looking for a good finish to his rookie campaign in the Champ Car World Series. source: champcarworldseries.com - David Phillips The likable Belgian has enjoyed a good first season in Champ Cars with Dale Coyne Racing, earning several top ten finishes highlighted by a fifth place in Cleveland. Still, like many drivers at this time of year, he is unsure of his plans for next season. Although his name has been linked with former Minardi F1 team owner Paul Stoddart's potential entry into Champ Cars -- possibly backed by Dutch real estate magnate Har Muermans whose name adorns the side of Heylen's Champ Car. "We're talking to a few people with different teams," he says. "We're also talking with Dale. He's a good guy and I've enjoyed driving for his team. But we're talking with some other teams. The whole Paul Stoddart/Muermans thing is not very clear at the moment, so there's nothing I can say about that. I just have to wait and see there as well, see what happens. "So we're talking to a lot of people and, hopefully, over the winter we can do a few tests with a few teams and we'll see. All I can do is the best I can and hopefully find a good drive for next year." Heylen's season began late -- he wasn't confirmed as one of Coyne's drivers until the week before the first race of the season at Long Beach. Then he spent the season as one of the few constants on a team that saw Cristiano da Matta run the first four races before moving to RuSPORT and being replaced by Mario Dominguez who, in turn, moved to Rocketsports after the Montreal race. Since then, Heylen has been the "veteran" of the team, working with Juan Caceres at Road America and Champ Car Atlantic graduate Andreas Wirth in Australia.
