Scotland's Dario Franchitti has joined his countryman Jim Clark on the famous Borg Warner Trophy after winning the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500. source: crash.net Franchitti led Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and defending Indy 500 champion Sam Hornish Jr to the famous yard of bricks after just 165 of the 200 scheduled laps as rain pelted the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the second time in a matter of hours. Earlier in the day the race was halted for three hours for rain after 113 laps had been completed but after some heroic efforts from the track crew the series was able to run another 50 laps before the rains returned for good. Running fifth at the time of the initial red flag Franchitti was forced to pit to change a cut tyre before the race returned to green, dropping him to 14th in the process. However after a dogged fightback Franchitti inherited the lead when his AGR teammate Tony Kanaan was involved in a restart crash on lap 160. Franchitti avoided the incident and took the lead with the rain coming before the race had a chance to restart.
