A.J. Allmendinger's hopes of claiming a fourth straight Champ Car World Series victory in the West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix took a knock in provisional qualifying when he crashed without setting a meaningful time. source: crash.net Victories in Portland, Cleveland and Toronto have vaulted Allmendinger into championship contention and after he claimed the fastest time in practice ahead of qualifying, the Forsythe Racing driver had set his sights on provisional pole position. However, while he had been quick in the morning, Allmendinger admitted that the car was still proving troublesome, a fact that contributed to his downfall during qualifying when his car's rear-end snapped round and pitched him into the wall, ending his day. "Even though we've been very quick all day I still wasn't completely happy with the car, the rear end would snap every time I turned into the corners, during qualifying it caught up with me and I lost it going into one and hit the wall. Furthermore, championship rival Sebastien Bourdais claimed the additional point for provisional pole position, although Allmendinger insists he will be going all out for overall pole position come final qualifying. "It's very frustrating, I mean we've been the quickest car by far. I have no doubt that I could've had Pole. But the Forsythe Team is the best in the business and I know that they'll give me an even better car tomorrow and we'll get back on top."
