Sebastien Bourdais maintained the form he showed in this morning's 135-minute
free practice session to record his first pole position on an oval circuit at
the Eurospeedway Lausitz this afternoon.
The Frenchman, fresh from victory in the Champ Car London Trophy race at Brands
Hatch last weekend, set a 37.000s lap, just over two hundredths faster than
Newman/Haas team-mate Bruno Junqueira who will start alongside Bourdais on the
front row.
Rahal's Michel Jourdain Jr was third fastest ahead of Reynard duo Mario
Haberfeld and Darren Manning. Mario Dominguez, who finished third at Brands,
will start tomorrow's 500-mile race from sixth.
Championship leader Paul Tracy could only manage the 16th fastest time, just
ahead of his Player's Forsythe team-mate Patrick Carpentier.
