As expected, the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team has decided to revert to the 2014 brake units and supplier following problems at the Malaysian Grand Prix two weeks ago.
In Malaysia, the Renault-powered RB11s of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo suffered from overheating front brakes. Clouds of black carbon dust could be seen surrounding the Red Bulls every time they braked hard. The RB11s were fitted with American Hitco brakes discs in Kuala Lumpur but they will revert to Italian Brembo units this weekend in Shanghai.
"We have done quite a bit. The main points from Malaysia were we had brake issues, a lot of overheating, so we have reverted back on a few things, even from last year which we knew was more efficient,” Daniel Ricciardo said. “Just because it's from last year it doesn't mean it's not better, so I guess we have taken a step back in that direction, but on top of that we have some aero upgrades, which look promising. The team has done quite a lot to rectify some issues and get us further up the grid."
