"We're actually going to do something very fun for the last race when we go to Mexico" Fittipaldi source: CART.com - David Phillips When the checkered flag falls on next Sunday's Gran Premio Telmex/Gigante Presented by Banamex/Visa it will mark the end of an era in Champ Car racing, one that began on the streets of Long Beach in 1984. It was there that Emerson Fittipaldi drove a shocking pink March/Cosworth to fifth place in his CART debut. The Fittipaldi name has since been emblazoned in the CART records for 19 seasons, but since 1995, Christian Fittipaldi has done the lion's share of the work. Coincidentally, the younger Fittipaldi also earned a fifth place in his Champ Car debut on the streets of Miami. And while he may not have matched his uncle's gaudy statistics, Christian Fittipaldi's accumulation of 20 podium appearances and two wins during his CART career is enviable in its own right. Nevertheless, as Fittipaldi prepares to make his final Champ Car start, he looks at his CART career with a mixture of pride and bemusement.
