Andretti Green Racing finished the open test on the
Homestead-Miami Speedway Thursday exactly where they finished the 2004 IndyCar
Series season, with the top two positions.
Dario Franchitti went out in the final minutes of the test to take the top spot
in the open test speed chart. In doing so, he knocked his Andretti Green Racing
teammate, Dan Wheldon, off the top of the chart.
Franchitti said topping the speed chart was definitely a benefit of being a four
car team.
"We spent the last two days making changes to the cars. We had a good couple of
days of testing. This was definitely a benefit of being a four car team plus
Honda made some changes over the winter," Franchitti said.
While Marlboro Team Penske driver Helio Castroneves took the third fastest spot
of the day, AGR drivers Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta claimed the fourth an fifth
fastest positions.
The four AGR drivers had the four fastest times of the morning practice.
Franchitti, who came to the IndyCar Series from a road racing background, was
obviously enjoying the return to a road course but was asked how well he thought
these cars would perform in a race, and if they could pass.
