There were some good reasons for Chip Ganassi Racing to add the Indy Pro Series to its increasing dossier of competitive endeavors. source: paddocktalk.com - Anne Proffit The Indy Racing League has added test days for its IndyCar Series teams to test IPS drivers, in an era where testing is not the gold standard; rather, it's the platinum standard. According to Ganassi's managing director Mike Hull, there's more to the equation than the testing capabilities; Ganassi wants to evaluate new and youthful drivers, engineers and mechanics to fortify their open wheel, sports car and even NASCAR squads into the future. Andretti Green Racing was amongst the initial ICS teams to take that route last year with near-championship results. Will it work for Ganassi, who had two of four drivers in the top four in last year's gallop to win the IndyCar Series title? In announcing this new program, former driver and team owner Chip Ganassi spoke of his love for open wheel racing as a prime propellant. "Despite the fact that we are involved in a number of racing leagues," Ganassi said, "I am a big proponent of open wheel racing in the U.S. "I feel it is a great form of racing," Ganassi continued, "and anything that we can do as an organization to help cultivate young talent in the cars and also in the garage is a benefit to us and the open wheel racing industry." Hull was even more emphatic in stating the team's support for open wheel racing: "I think all of the IndyCar Series teams should be running in-house IPS programs to support the sport," he declared.
