As Auto123.com had already revealed last week, it was announced officially that the Detroit's Belle Isle street track will be back on the 2012 IZOD Indycar schedule.
The Detroit venue was first brought forward largely by Roger Penske some years ago and the return of the event for next year is not coincidental to the future presence of Chevrolet in the Indycar paddocks as Team Penske’s new engine supplier. The scenic 2.1-mile circuit has secured a place on the calendar for 1-3 June next year. The Belle Isle track hosted the CART Indycar/Champ Car series from 1992 to 2001, before being revived for IndyCar and the American Le Mans Series in 2007-08. Justin Wilson took victory for Newman/Haas in the last IndyCar event held there, after Penske's Helio Castroneves was penalised for blocking.
