Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) won his third IndyCar race in-a-row this time on the streets of Toronto and now takes the lead in the series' championship.
The American, who had already won in Milwaukee and Iowa, was lucky enough to pit just before the yellow flag was brought out following Ganassi's Graham Rahal crash, therefore making headway while the others made their own stops under caution a couple of laps later. During the last restart of the race, Hunter-Reay survived a crash that involved a number of cars among them Dragon's Sebastien Bourdais who was an innocent victim of a tangle between Ganassi's Charlie Kimball and Mike Conway (AJ Foyt). Both drivers were able to finish respectively second and third.
Veteran Tony Kanaan (KV Racing Technology) was fourth while Penske'd Helio Castroneves took the final top-5 position. Not a good day at the office for Will Power (Penske) who, after leading the race early on was involved in an incident with Josef Newgarden that forced him to visit the pits at least two times. The Ganassi duo had his share of problems also as Scott Dixon saw his engine quit after only eight laps while current IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti lots time during a bad pitstop only to be involved later on in an accident in the last restart.
