Similar to what exists in Formula One with the GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers’ Association), drivers of the IZOD IndyCar series have decided to form a new association spearheaded by Dario Franchitti (photo), Justin Wilson and Tony Kanaan.
This new group will mainly focus on presenting a united front when it comes to issues including safety and promotion. "For us, to get everybody in a room together was the main focus," said Dario Franchitti. "We'll get the opinions of everybody about safety -- the things we see at the tracks that others don't. It's been a long time coming." Brian Barnhart, president of the Indianapolis-based Indy Racing League welcomed the input: "If we have a unified voice coming to speak to us about any concerns in terms of safety, facilities or anything like that, it is welcome."
