The future of the Surfers Paradise event in the IndyCar schedule is still uncertain as both the IRL officials and the Australian race promoters failed to reach an agreement on a suitable date for the event.
IndyCar Series officials say they are not expecting a decision on the future of the Surfers Paradise race until the middle of November, but are optimistic they can find a solution. The IRL would like to move Surfers to late September, because of a contractual obligation with the Chicagoland Speedway that allows this venue to be the last race of the schedule. They would also like to regroup the Australian and Japanese races to cut down on travel expenses. But Surfers' officials are concerned that a September slot will present too many clashes with other sporting events, and would prefer to retain the late October date Surfers has occupied for the last decade.
