Former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos joined fellow 2009 rookies Raphael Matos (Luczo Dragon), Mike Conway (Dreyer & Reinbold) and NASCAR driver Stanton Barrett (3G) for a rookie orientation session on the Miami oval prior to the opening test of the
IndyCar season at Homestead Tuesday night.
For Doornbos, it was really a first on oval racing and he was adamant to say that this type of driving was definitely different from what he had expected. The newly appointed Newman-Haas-Lanigan driver completed more than 111 laps.
The Dutchman expects an even greater challenge tonight when 22 drivers are expected to take to the track for the six-hour floodlit session.
