Scheckter also has spoken with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, which is close to striking a deal with a primary sponsor for its first car. Panther's situation figures to come into focus by the end of next week. Pat Patrick, a co-founder of CART who briefly fielded an IRL team, is interesting in buying Panther's assets (except the name of the team). It is unclear if Panther will continue to operate an IRL program if Patrick does not buy the team. Patrick Carpentier is under contract with Meccachrome, which partnered with Cheever Racing's IRL team last year. But Eddie Cheever said he and the sponsor don't have a deal for next season.
