Jourdain recorded his first win in his 126th Champ Car race after 4 previous podium visits. The win places him on top of the season standings with 77 pts. Oriol Servia recorded his best career finish by coming in 2nd, bettering his only other podium visit (3rd at the Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix in 2000). Patrick Carpentier recorded the fastest lap of the race (21.820s, 170.266mph) finished 3rd. Paul Tracy's quest to repeat as the Milwaukee winner fell apart on lap 213 when he lost a wheel after a pitstop, resulting in another pitstop and a penalty. Bruno Junqueira, co-points leader with Paul Tracy coming into the race, had his evening cut short when he tagged the wall at the start of the race. Rookie Darren Manning drove an impressive race, finishing 4th after starting in 11th position. Pole sitter Alex Tagliani struggled with poor handling to bring his car home in 5th.
