As RSPORTS driver Alex Tagliani anticipated returning to his native Quebec this weekend, he took time away from all the media attention that has been focused on him and put that attention on his RSPORTS team by arranging a day of fun for the crew before they headed to Mont-Tremblant for this weekend's Champ Car race. source: rocketsportsracing.com In appreciation of all that the team does for him, Tagliani switched up the roles on the team. He placed his mechanics as the drivers, and him as a cook, mechanic, driver coach, and cheerleader. The team headed to Montreal on Tuesday night for a day full of fun on Wednesday at the SRA Karting International Inc. go-kart track, in St-Roch-de-L'Achigan, Quebec, Canada. The event kicked off at 11:00 a.m. this morning, which saw the RSPORTS team members partake in four on-track activities. The first on-track session was a practice run. Alex Mitchie, who is responsible for the shocks and body work on the #9 CDW car, lead the field. Garrett Spedoske, Gearbox and Sub-Assembly Mechanic for the #8 Tide@Wal-Mart Victory Lap Charity Program, finished second, while Rob Atkinson, # 8 car Data Acquisition Engineer, rounded out the top three. Next up was qualifying, where Thomas Semik, #9 CDW front end mechanic, claimed the pole position. During the Semi-Final event, Kevin Hanrahan, Gearbox Specialist on the #9 car, claimed the win. But it was the runner-up of the Semi-Final event that would claim the ultimate victory over the 24-car field during the Final event, Scott Liebert, #9 Parts and Lifing Manager. As a victory lap, Liebert climbed into Rotax Shifter Kart to experience performance a step above the normal rental go-karts. After cooking the team lunch, along with many other duties that Tagliani took on this afternoon, the driver of the #8 Tide@Wal-Mart Victory Lap Charity Program Champ Car also took to the track demonstrating his already known talent and skill. Justin Wilson was able to also join the team this afternoon, making a few laps around the 1.234 km (0.77 miles) track. The team also had the opportunity to take helicopter rides, provided by a friend of Tagliani's, while enjoying hospitality under the Tide@Wal-Mart Victory Lap Charity Program Display tent. "This was a day for the guys," said Tagliani. "They do so much for me; I just wanted to be able to do something special for them. I think that they had a good time; it was just nice to do something together away from the track." The team left the track and headed to Mont-Tremblant, where they will begin preparations starting tomorrow for Sunday's inaugural Grand Prix of Mont-Tremblant.
