MJCR, qualified 16th and Andrew Ranger on his first season with Champ Car,
qualified 7th on the first day of qualifying for The Toyota Grand Prix of Long
Beachv on Friday.
Nelson Philippe (Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing Lola-Ford #34)
Nelson said: "This morning we went ahead with our test plan that the engineers
come up with, we try many things - some where good, some where not so good. It
was hard to drive because the track changes a lot. First session was OK, we
learn a little. By the afternoon, my car was difficult to drive, so we changed
to Andrew's set-up, which was better, but not optimal. It was totally different
for me, I only got one run. We are a bit disappointed, but I hope it will work
better tomorrow. We will put all our effort for qualifying, because starting
position is key here.
Andrew Ranger (Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing Lola-Ford #27)
Andrew said "This morning it was absolutely sensational to drive a ChampCar on
the streets of Long Beach. What a difference from my car last year. I was out
there all the time. I did more laps then anybody. It help me to work on the
set-up of the car and get more grip. I'm really happy with 7th place in
qualifying. Still have a lot to work for tomorrow. So many fans came to me; they
remember me from last year podium"
