The Lowe's brands has signed a multi-year extension to its sponsorship deal with Hendrick Motorsports, confirming that the #48 Chevrolet, currently driven by Jimmie Johnson, will continue to carry its colours for a further four years. source: crash.net The deal follows a similar agreement between team boss Rick Hendrick and Johnson himself, with the driver also signing a contract extension that keeps him at the team through to the end of the 2010 campaign. "Jimmie has been a part of the Chevrolet family since he started in off-road racing and throughout his transition to stock car racing, beginning with ASA, and moving on to the Busch Series and now the Nextel Cup Series," said GM programme manager Alba Colon, "Jimmie has been a part of Chevrolet's racing success for a long time and we are very excited that he will continue to work with us." The agreements build on the three-way partnership launched in 2001 when Hendrick Motorsports selected Johnson, who at the time had never started a Nextel Cup race, to pilot the new Lowe's-sponsored Chevrolet. Now in the midst of its fifth full season, the team has posted 21 victories and four top-five points finishes. Hendrick,Johnson and Lowe's have already enjoyed three wins this season, and currently occupy first position in the points.
