Raikkonen to Remain at Ferrari
Rumours lasting throughout the summer have turned out to be groundless, as Kimi Riakkonen will be returning behind the wheel of a Ferrari next season in Formula One. The Italian F1 team announced on Wednesday that the Finnish driver will be back alongside Sebastian Vettel for 2016, this after speculation that several drivers including Williams’ Valtteri Bottas had been considered for Raikkonen’s spot on the team.
Patrick Keeps Team, Changes Primary Sponsor
After some speculation about a possible change of teams, Danica Patrick has signed on for another contract with Stewart-Haas for 2016 and beyond. Though the NASCAR veteran will not be switching teams, the look of her car will be markedly different as GoDaddy is replaced by new primary sponsor Nature’s Bakery. This week’s announcement of the new sponsorship deal included an unveiling of Patrick’s new light-blue Chevrolet SS.
A.J. Foyt to Miss Last Two Races of IndyCar Season
Racing legend and IndyCar team owner A.J. Foyt will not be making the trip to Pocono or to Sonoma for the final two races of the 2015 season. This announcement comes just over a week after the 80-year-old four-time Indy 500 champion was operated on for a staph infection in his right artificial knee. Recovery is expected to last several weeks, and will include a follow-up operation scheduled for early October.
Ontario Racing Fans In Anticipation of Big Weekend at Peterborough
As part of the Peterborough Speedway’s hot August night Racing Series, the Chase for the Colors Pole Qualifier will be held this coming Saturday, with the province’s top drivers in Mini Stock, Thunder Car and Late Model categories expected in attendance.
