It was a long, hot day in Texas for the Red Bull Cheever Racing team. With temperatures in the 90s during the two practice sessions and qualifying runs, the team was unable to find the kinds of speed to put them at the front of the pack.
source: redbullcheeverracing.com Alex Barron turned 54 laps in the two practice sessions with a top lap of 209.889 mph. During his qualifying run, he posted a best lap of 208.066 mph, which places the #51 car on the outside of row 10 for the race. "We made an improvement from practice and that's about all we had. We can't make the car anymore neutral than we have. We just need to go to work on our race setup and see where we end up. I like all the summer races under the lights. It's good for the fans. It's more exciting with the lights. The fans don't have to be in the hot sun and the cars seem like they are going quicker under the lights. It's a good time. And after the race it is late enough to go to dinner and not have to wait in line," Barron said. Patrick Carpentier was a bit busier in the #83 car during the afternoon practice sessions where he completed 67 laps, which resulted in a best lap of 208.926 mph. In his qualification attempt, he ran a best lap of 207.887 mph, putting him on the inside of row 11 for the race. "In practice today, I was hoping to be able to stick with the guys on the track and ride their gearbox, but I couldn't do that. We've tried a lot of things today by taking things off of it, putting them on, but nothing seems to be working. The car is pretty neutral, so I'm not sure why we're having problems with speed," Carpentier said. Red Bull Cheever Racing returns to action on Friday for two practice sessions. The afternoon session is from 2 to 3 p.m. with the evening session taking place from 7 to 7:30 p.m. The Bombardier Learjet 500 takes place Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN.
