Co-Owner Dempsey excited by newest role source: irl.racing-live.com - ORS / CAPSIS International Tomas Scheckter has driven for some of the IndyCar Series most experienced teams over the past four seasons and now moves to one of the youngest, but the young veteran IndyCar driver would not have taken the ride if he did not believe in Vision Racing. "I think I would rather go home and go work on my dad's farm if I didn't think I had a realistic chance of winning," said Scheckter who previously drove for Red Bull Cheever Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, and most recently Panther Racing. "I think I'll only be involved with people that I know that they'll give me this opportunity. You go in the shop, every single day there's more and more people. We're getting all the best equipment." Driving over the past two seasons with the Chevrolet supported Panther team, Scheckter seemed to be coming into his own in 2005 with a win at Texas, and five more top five finishes to his credit. Known to be fast, but impatient early in his career, Scheckter believes he has now figured out how to be successful on the ovals - where 11 of the 14 IndyCar Series races in 2006 will be contested. Said Scheckter, "I think the biggest thing is understanding how to race, how mentally to run the race, when to push, when not to push, and also how to set up a car. I think it's taken me two or three years to really say, 'OK, this is how you do it.' Unfortunately, I've had to that have learning curve in front of the public's eye. But I think, as you've seen last year, it's a lot more consistent, a lot more running up front, a lot less mistakes definitely on my part." Coming together just before the season started in 2005, Vision was formed by IRL founder Tony George and his wife Laura. They immediately put Ed Carpenter, his stepson and like Scheckter a former Cheever driver, into the seat of the then Toyota powered car.
