Speed has already completed the first winter test for the team in Spain, and will be testing extensively before the first race of the season in Bahrain on March 12th Speed, of Manteca, California, had tested for the Red Bull Racing Formula One team in 2005, including being the test and reserve driver at both the Canadian and US Gran Prix events. One of the youngest Formula One drivers, Speed was a member of the Red Bull Junior team, coming from the 2003 Red Bull American F1 Driver Search and then winning both the Formula Renault German and Eurocup Championships in 2004. Following his successful 2005 season in the GP2 series, Speed will now become America's first fulltime F1 driver since 1993. Scuderia Toro Rosso (Italian for Team Red Bull), formerly the Minardi F1 team and renamed after being bought by Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz's Red Bulk energy drink brand, will continue to be based in Italy.
