Heavy rain put pay to any opportunity for improvement in qualifying for Round 12 of the Champ Car World Series in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin today, allowing Team Australia to maintain its top ten positions from Friday. source: teamaustraliamotorsport.com Aussie Vineyards drivers Will Power and Alex Tagliani were third and sixth respectively in today's wet qualifying session, but with times significantly slower in the rain, Tagliani will start fourth and Power seventh in tomorrow's race by virtue of their times yesterday. Tagliani was third in opening qualifying on Friday, but with Sebastien Bourdais setting the fastest time in today's qualifying session he is assured a front row starting spot, bumping Tagliani to fourth. The Canadian will be out to repeat his performance of 2004 at the classic Road America circuit, where Tagliani earned his first Champ Car win. Power continued his fine run this weekend, finishing in the top 10 in every session so far this weekend. Power will be out to keep his lead in the Roshfrans Rookie of the Year standings, with his rivals rookie rivals Dan Clarke and Charles Zwolsman to start first and third respectively tomorrow. Alex Tagliani - #15 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards Lola "Today was a really weird session," said Tagliani. "Our car was good and we were running up the front. We need to make some improvements for the dry, but we are quick enough in damp conditions to stay up front. "This type of track is similar all the way around. If the car is good in one place, it's going to be good everywhere. "In most of the places we are doing pretty good, right now the dry set-up was not as good as the wet and in the dry we had a lot of understeer, but it was not an evil car to drive. "Starting fourth on this track is great and if we can get some good fuel mileage we will come away with a strong finish." Will Power - #5 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards Lola "Today was about the same as yesterday," said Power. "The track was wetter today than yesterday, so the times were slower and nothing really changed except for Bourdais going to the front row. "The Team Australia guys gave me a good car and our set-up is good in the dry or wet, whatever condition. I'm really looking forward to the race. "I think we can come away with a good result if we keep out of trouble early on, because it's a bit of a mixed up grid. Whether it is wet or dry, I don't care, because in either condition we can do it."
