Paul Tracy dodged the Toronto showers to set fastest time in the first practice session for Sunday's Molson Indy Toronto. The local hero used slicks for the final minutes to set a time four seconds faster than his closest pursuer, Oriol Servia. Tracy used a late red flag to switch from wet to slick tires, and blitzed a lap of 1:01.171 (103.284mph). Second quick was Oriol Servia, his time of 1:05.329 (96.710mph) nearly seven miles an hour slower. Third on the time sheets was Roberto Moreno on 1:05.745 (96.099mph). Fourth and fifth fastest were two more Canadians, Patrick Carpentier and Alex Tagliani. Jimmy Vasser only completed an out lap before bringing out the red flag when his car stopped on track, while neither Michel Jourdain and Alex Sperafico, making his Champ Car debut for Dale Coyne Racing, didn't turn a wheel. The clouds opened as the second session started, and no cars turned a wheel for 25 minutes as the Simple Green Safety Team set about with the jet driers. Alex Tagliani kept the Canadian fans happy by seting the fastest time of the session, with a 1:09.673 (90.681mph lap), but no match for Tracy's earlier time. We're back here again at 3:15pm ET for the final practice session, followed by first qualifying at 3:35pm ET.
