Forsythe Championship Racing drivers Paul Tracy and Mario Dominguez claimed top-five finishes in Edmonton on a day when just finishing was a challenge for many competitors
source: champcarworldseries Tracy, driving the #3 INDECK Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone Champ Car, went from third on the grid to lead the race for 30 laps after passing early pacesetters A.J. Allmendinger and Justin Wilson in the first few laps of the event, setting off a frenzied celebration from the 90,000 of his fellow Canadians estimated to be in attendance at the inaugural West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton. Eventually both Allmendinger and Wilson would work their way past Tracy who began to suffer handling and braking issues in the last half of the event. The Canadian veteran fell as low as sixth midway through the event as a spin pushed him down the order, but he rebounded and worked his way back up to third at the finish. "That was one hell of a race" said Tracy. "I'm really glad all these amazing fans got to see a good battle and an unpredictable outcome. We didn't have the car to stay with the RuSport guys (Allmendinger and Wilson); they just seemed to be on another planet. I got by them early but I could tell it was going to be a real challenge to hold them off. Once they got by they were just gone off into the distance. I had some braking issues but at the end of the day I'm pretty happy with another podium finish here in Canada. I think this might be the most challenging circuit of the season and I'm already looking forward to coming back here next year." Tracy's teammate Mario Dominguez, behind the wheel of the #7 INDECK Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone, came from 8th spot on the grid to claim fifth at the finish in a car that was not cooperative all weekend. "I'm pretty happy with fifth place today" commented Dominguez, "considering how our weekend went. We just never got the handling right and the car was really uncomfortable to drive all weekend. We raced a bit conservative and after my bad luck in the last few races I'm just happy to be able to finish. We knew there would be a lot of incidents today so we just kind of waited for things to happen and got a top five as a result."
