Walker Racing owner Derrick Walker announced today that his team will campaign with the Lola chassis for the entire 2005 Champ Car World Series season source: champcarworldseries.com Walker had been a customer of Reynard racing cars since 1995 and ultimately became the owner of the design rights for the company's Champ Car product. Walker Racing was the last team using the Reynard, a car that delivered seven consecutive championships to various drivers since its introduction in 1994. In 2002 Reynard was officially dissolved, and that's when Walker stepped in. Since that time the series rules have hampered the ability for the Reynard design to remain competitive. "In some respects we regret giving up on the Reynard. It provided a good package price wise, but without some rule modifications we are forced to face reality and make the necessary change" said Derrick Walker. A considerable investment has been made in purchasing two Lola cars. "We are all looking forward to the challenges that this change will bring and at least now we will not be fighting with one hand tied behind our back" remarked team manager Rob Edwards. In addition to the Lola purchase, Walker Racing is busy working on its Champ Car race program with which it plans to compete as a two-car team for the full 2005 season. The 2005 season will mark Walker Racing's 16th consecutive season in the Champ Car World Series. The team competed in the entire 2004 Champ Car season with Brazilian, Mario Haberfeld driving their #5 Cummins-Ford-Reynard with additional one-off entries for Australian, David Besnard and Canadian, Michael Valiante.
