Erstwhile Champ Car rivals Justin Wilson and Alex Tagliani have both spoken positively about the possibility of working together this season, as merger rumours grow around their respective RuSPORT and Rocketsports Racing operations. source: crash.net Both teams reported successful conclusions to their Spring Training test at Laguna Seca at the weekend, but the big news was the collaboration over date acquisition and the suggestion that they could work even more closely - the official line is 'technical partners' - during the 2007 season. After getting acclimatised to the new Panoz DP01 at the Sebring and Houston tests, Spring Training provided an opportunity for both Wilson and Tagliani to get down to the real business of dialling their cars in for the opening race of the season, in Las Vegas, next month. The Briton put in 272 laps around the 2.2-mile California road course, posting the seventh fastest time overall, while Tagliani transcended previous performances by posting top ten times on the opening day before coming close to setting a new track record in the final session, after Champ Car put up a $5000 reward for anyone able to topple the Toyota F1 team from its perch. Both drivers beat the existing Champ Car lap record, established by Helio Castroneves' Reynard back in 2000. "I am very pleased with our results over the past two-days," Wilson reported, "We were only a few tenths away from the top of the field, so we are quite pleased about that. "I think that working with Rocketsports was a great opportunity and we all worked very well together. It was definitely an advantage to have a team-mate, especially an experienced one like Alex, and I feel that we were both able to benefit from working together. Overall, it was a very positive experience as we prepare for our first race in April."
